General Info

What is Empathy For Youth Academy?

Empathy For Youth Academy is an online-based educational platform dedicated to fostering emotional intelligence, resilience, and social responsibility through Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) programs for individuals of all ages.

We offer a combination of online courses and in-person programs to reach diverse audiences.

What is Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)?

At its simplest essence, Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is the process of learning to understand ourselves and recognise and manage emotions, set positive goals, show empathy for others, build healthy relationships, and make responsible decisions. Read more here.

Programmes and Courses

Do you have a physical space for in-person programs?

No, currently EFY Academy does not have a dedicated physical space. Instead, we operate fully online and deliver in-person programs at various events and on-site locations, such as schools, universities, workplaces, and community centers.

Our team travels to provide tailored SEL programs that meet the specific needs of each group.

What types of programmes, courses and services do you offer?

We offer a wide range of programs online and at client locations, including SEL workshops, training sessions, team-building activities, and long-term courses. These programmes are customised to address the unique goals and challenges of each client.

Apart from courses, we also offer consultation, coaching, and counselling services.

Check our Services page for more information.

Who can enroll in your courses?

Although the emphasis for us is on the youth demographic, our courses are designed to suit individuals of all ages, including students, educators, parents, and anyone interested in developing their social and emotional skills.

Are your courses available online?

Yes, we offer both online (Zoom, Google Meet) and in-person courses to accommodate different learning preferences and geographical locations.

Enrollment and Participation

How can I enroll in a course or workshop?

You can enroll through our website as an individual or representative by selecting the desired course or workshop and following the registration instructions using our Needs Form in the Services page.

Are there any prerequisites for enrolling in your courses?

Most of our courses do not have prerequisites and are open to all individuals interested in SEL. Specific requirements, if any, will be listed in the course description.

How long do the courses last?

Course durations vary, with some lasting a few weeks and others spanning several months. Each course description will provide detailed information on the duration.

Fee Structures

What is a sliding scale fee structure?

A sliding scale fee structure adjusts the cost of our programs based on the financial capacity of each participant.

This is our explicit effort as a social enterprise towards inclusion and ensures that everyone, regardless of their financial situation, has access to our SEL programs.

How does the sliding scale work?

Generally participants with higher financial capacity may pay closer to the full cost, while those with limited resources pay a reduced fee.

At EFY, our sliding scale fee is applicable specifically for individuals. These tiers are used as a guideline:

  • Tier 1: 100% fee applies to people who hold a stable income or allowance, or a full-time job
  • Tier 2: 70% fee applies to people who are in between stable and unstable income situation.
  • Tier 3: 40%-50% of fee applies to people without a stable income. These individuals are commonly, but not exclusively freelancers, artists, activists and human rights defender (HRD)
  • EFY Bursary Fund: No fee applies for people gifted with this fund, depending on availability.

At our current startup stage, we are not yet able to offer sliding scale fees for universities and workplaces.

Kindly speak to us if none of these apply to your current financial situation. We have never denied anyone to participate in our learning sessions due to lack of funds.

How do I request a sliding scale fee or financial aid?

When registering for a program, indicate your interest in sliding scale fees or financial aid. Our team will guide you through the application process to ensure you receive the appropriate support.

Are there different fee structures for universities, workplaces, and corporate training?

Yes. While we offer sliding scale fees to ensure inclusivity and access for individuals and community groups, we charge market rates for universities, workplaces, and corporate training programs. These rates reflect the value and impact of our specialised SEL services in professional and academic settings.

Why do you charge market rates for universities, workplaces, and corporate training?

Charging market rates for these services allows us to sustain our operations and subsidise the costs for individuals and communities who benefit from our sliding scale fees. This approach helps us balance financial viability with our commitment to inclusivity and access.

Are there any scholarships, bursary or financial aid options available?

Yes, we offer bursary for those who need additional assistance. Please inquire about this option during the registration process.

EFY Bursary Fund: No fee applies for people gifted with this fund. Depending on availability.

Benefits and Outcome

What are the benefits of participating in SEL programs?

Participants can expect to develop better self-awareness, emotional regulation, empathy, relationship skills, and decision-making abilities. These skills contribute to personal growth, improved relationships, and overall well-being.
