Athirah Mahdzir is a communications strategist and certified coach with more than a decade of experience shaping culture and connection across multinational organisations. Her corporate career spans IBM, HMI Group, and Great Eastern, where she led award-winning initiatives in employee engagement, internal communications, and employer branding.
Athirah’s corporate foundation began at IBM, where across eight years she delivered high-impact communications and branding initiatives. She led a volunteer team of employees to strengthen culture and engagement, executed the branding strategy for IBM’s Center of Digital Excellence, and co-led the launch of the Client Innovation Center Malaysia alongside the Minister of Communication and Multimedia, establishing IBM’s presence as an innovation hub in the region.
During her tenure at HMI Group, she led strategic communications for the Group’s transition to Microsoft 365, supported more than 2000 employees through culture change, and built internal influencer networks engaging leaders, managers, and doctors in meaningful dialogue. She also launched #HMIproud, a storytelling campaign that amplified purpose-driven work across the organisation.
At Great Eastern, Athirah introduced Empathy@Work, a conversational mental-health series and contributed to the organisation winning the Gold Award for Best Employee Wellness Strategy at the Employee Experience Awards 2025. She also digitalised internal communications for 2,500 employees and spearheaded the launch of Great Eastern Cares, mobilising over 300 volunteers and more than 1,200 hours of community service.
Driven by a calling to support deeper emotional wellbeing, Athirah co-founded Rumah Empati, a compassion-based educational platform offering Social, Emotional, and Ethical Learning (SEEL). Certified by the International Muslim Women Coaching Academy and trained in Islamic Positive Psychology, she integrates coaching, mindfulness, and experiential learning to help individuals cultivate awareness, compassion, and resilience.
