Azzad Mahdzir

EFY Academy Co-founder, Healing arts practitioner, Curriculum designer, SEL instructor, NVC student & supporter

Azzad is an educator, healing arts practitioner and a multi-disciplinary artist. His career in education started after his degree from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language).

His longest teaching role was in colleges in Labuan (2005-2010). Since 2011, he has ventured into visual graphics, filmmaking, theatre-making and performing arts. In 2017, he started combining mindfulness and healing arts into his creative repertoire.

A practitioner of the Vipassana meditation tradition (Insight meditation)  and an independent student of Buddhist psychology, Azzad co-founded Empathy For Youth Academy, a Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) platform during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. He has since been serving the youth, marginalised bodies, artists, educators and civil societies through self-care and psychoeducational programming in Malaysia and the Southeast Asia region.

Since January 2024, he appears as guest to the Gen-Z celebrated podcast series “Talk To You Later” under the aptly named segment “Empathy For Youth”. Azzad mainly divides his time in Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta and Bali for work and collaboration.
